FAQs
Frequently asked questions
If your question isn't answered below, our secretary will be happy to help on 07899 819 012
- Do I need a GP referral?
- No referral is required for self-paying patients. Most private medical insurers require a referral letter — your GP can provide this and it can be emailed to our secretary in advance.
- How quickly can I be seen?
- We try our best to accommodate initial consultations as soon as we can. Urgent cases are prioritised where clinically appropriate.
- Are you recognised by my insurer?
- Professor Smith is recognised by Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, WPA and most other UK private medical insurers.
- Where do consultations take place?
- All consultations and investigations are at Ross Hall Clinic Braehead, part of Circle Health Group, in Glasgow. Video/telephone consultations are also available.
- What should I bring to my first appointment?
- Please bring a list of your current medication, any previous test results or hospital letters, and your insurance details if applicable.
- Will my GP be informed?
- Yes. A detailed clinic letter is sent to you within one working day (sometimes within a few hours) and to your GP within five working days of every consultation.
- Do you see children?
- Professor Smith sees adult patients aged 18 and over. We can recommend trusted paediatric respiratory colleagues for younger patients.
- Can I have a video/telephone consultation?
- Yes. Video/telephone consultations are available upon request and are suitable for many follow-up appointments and second opinions. We are not able to offer these for initial consultations.
- How are tests organised?
- Where possible, investigations are arranged on the same site, often on the same day, to minimise additional visits.
- What is your cancellation policy?
- We ask for at least 48 hours' notice to avoid a cancellation fee. We understand circumstances change and will always try to be flexible.
