Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory condition that can affect multiple organs in the body, most commonly the lungs and lymph nodes. It occurs when the immune system becomes overactive and produces inflammatory cells.
Pulmonary sarcoidosis can cause symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, chest pain, and fatigue. However, some people have no symptoms and are diagnosed incidentally on imaging.
The course of sarcoidosis varies widely between individuals. Some people recover spontaneously, while others require long-term treatment with corticosteroids or other immunosuppressive therapies. Specialist assessment and monitoring are important.
